Amalgamation of Product Lines
“While we were aware of the great complexity of the project, at the same time we identified the potential improvement achievable by arranging the production line to be more efficient and profitable.”
Industrial enterprises are confronted with tremendous challenges in relation to new products and production lines. At the same time they have to organise their current products and processes more efficiently in order to remain competitive. Even though the available space is limited in existing factories, costs factors nevertheless lead to attempts of integrating new production lines into existing structures. These were the challenges that confronted us during a project performed for a leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles.
How can we organise production lines more cost-efficiently?One way is to amalgamate existing production lines for similar products. The amalgamation and merger of production lines is a complex task and requires a holistic project approach. Our team provides on-site strategic and methodical support to customers in order to ensure the success of the project.
Elements of the project set-upSignificant elements of the holistic project set-up included the definition of the project organisation, the responsibilities, the timeline and milestones and the allocation of work packages. We also performed implementation scenarios and business-case studies and estimated the return on investment period. The methods we applied resulted in increased transparency and objectivity. In this way the management was able to take strategic decisions during the entire project.
The planning phase is completed. Now the next phase can begin – the actual merger of the two production lines.
