In the second of a two-part blog series in “Wireless Design and Development” magazine, P3 north america president and CEO Samit Ghosh gives his take on how automakers need to change or be left behind in the face of drastic disruption from the onslaught of new technologies.
This new complex ecosystem means OEMs, accustomed to working and thinking in terms of components and parts have to quickly change their organizational mindsets from hardware to system-focused. Building on the safety and security provided by in-car telematics systems, the focus is now shifting to how vehicles can interact with one another and the outside world, making the next step towards a fully autonomous vehicle. Vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure technologies, known collectively as V2X, will become the basis for transportation models, enabling communications between multiple vehicles, and vehicles to their surroundings to improve road safety, alleviate traffic congestion, reduce fuel/energy consumption and enhance the overall passenger experience.
