Teleoperation – Cost Efficiency through driverless Logistics

Teleoperation – the remote control of vehicles via mobile network – already today offers a promising efficiency potential. This technology finds profitable applications both in the development of autonomous vehicles and in the execution of standardized driving tasks.

For this reason, P3 and FERNRIDE are announcing their cooperation to develop a customer-oriented “teleoperation-as-a-service“ business model. In particular, P3 will contribute its many years of experience in the logistics industry regarding the customer-oriented implementation of innovative technologies as well as the provision of an international infrastructure for teleoperations to this cooperation. Meanwhile, the Munich-based tech startup FERNRIDE focuses on technical product development and the simultaneous realization of customer projects.

The cooperation aims to speed up the product development process in order to introduce a customer-oriented service on the market.

WHY GO INTO LOGISTICS?

We have chosen the logistics industry because of its dire need for driverless transportation due to driver shortage and cost pressures. With teleoperation, we are transforming the job of the driver as we know it – from teleoperating one vehicle up to becoming a highly efficient manager of an automated fleet from the comfort of an office.

In a joint whitepaper, P3 and FERNRIDE demonstrate the potentials of teleoperation. On the one hand, we highlight the benefits to the current development of automated or autonomous vehicles and on the other hand, we present driverless logistics as an attractive use case scenario for teleoperation and discuss the customer’s perspective with DB Schenker.
