Study – Cell behavior at low temperatures and the importance of preconditioning

Especially in winter times, we as P3 often receive enquiries from our network why their electric vehicles do not reach the range and charge as fast as promised by the manufacturers. To analyse this phenomenon, the P3 experts have performed a study with actual test data to get to the bottom of this issue.

Why do low temperatures have such a big impact on the charging performance of an electric vehicle? And do cell chemistries have an influence on the weak charging performance or is it due to the vehicle and battery system design, that it is not properly pre-conditioned?

Under these aspects, P3 provides a comprehensive explanation of the cell behavior at low temperatures and the importance of preconditioning for battery systems.
